So, there are many types of roles within a particular platoon. Now, this can vary from squad to squad. Depending on the diversity of the unit itself. Some players prefer a certain style over others, and they tend to stick to that style every match.
Now, we typically run our team as a Seal Team would. Specific roles within the team, that are designated. But, members are able to rotate if they would like to and if the other member would like to switch up as well. I will give you the run down from top to bottom of our squad. So, you have a basic idea of how one should relatively look. By all means this is a guideline, you don't have to take it to heart.
Position 1 - Squad Leader
This position by no means makes this person the boss over everyone. So, if you think you can be a bossy pants and shout at everyone all day. Well, take a hike! Because, this role is not for you. Squad leader is someone who typically gets everyone together and can coordinate the team effectively. This role is there to help keep everyone more or less in line with the goal. To be the final decider if needed, basically the mom of the group.
Position 2 - Designated Marksmen/Sniper
This role doesn't necessarily mean you need to carry a sniper rifle with all the time or where a ghillie suit. The basic principle behind this particular role is someone who is the best shot of the group. You will typically be the one out front, doing recon for the squad. As you will not need to be close to the enemy team to get a clean and accurate shot. Most of the time you will have a sniper rifle as most people in this role tend to like being a sniper. The best way to move this role around is depending on your mission location. If it is a city environment than a more versatile marksmen/women is required. Someone with lets say a semi-automatic or carbine like the MK14. It is something that can easily maneuver within the landscape it is in. Now, the reverse is said for a more open woodland playing field. That is where a more stealthy approach comes in handy!
Position 3 - Rifleman
This is the typical grunt of the team. Now, this role can be more than one member. Especially if you are playing in a large group or large scale battle scenario. The rifleman is the filling in the pie. They give support to the whole squad, as well as provide your unit with the man/women power it needs to get the mission done. They are the one's that go in and clear a building or give suppressive fire on a target. Don't ever go into a mission without one!
Position 4 - Breacher/Assaulter
This position is only really useful in a city environment. They typically have a shotgun setup with grenades and/or smokebombs. They will be your main person going into a room and doing the initial first sweep of the room. With the riflemen/women behind them. This position is made even more of a juggernaut when you incorporate a tactical riot shield into there gear setup.
Position 5 - Heavy Gunner or The Goat
As the name of the position applies, this is the team member with the heavy weapon system. This can be a minigun, M60, and thing that lays out a very impressive amount of BB's. I think you get the point of the squad member.
Those are the most basic team roles within a squad. You can change the names or configuration to be more tailored to your particular set of people. But, this will help you get a good idea on how to win the next team op!
